touched!

It’s almost 12 in the evening and here I am still wide awake even if hubby said its “lights off” already.  I can’t seem to shut my eyes so I borrowed hubby’s laptop and blog. I just wish the keypad would light up or would glow in the dark just like what my keyboard can do.

I am glad this day ended with no “sapot” mode from me. Work was fine and the students.. oh well.. the same but at least I was not that annoyed or irritated. It is just so hard to deal with higher levels like juniors and seniors. They sometimes leave their manners at home so I feel really bad. But of course, there are those who are really focused and behaved.

This morning, I heard Manong from outside our gate if we wanted our lawn to be cleared off grasses. Thank goodness he dropped by today. I had been waiting for him to come and to cut the growing grasses. Again, he was accompanied by his daughter, just like before.  I wondered what kind of lives they lead. So, after I gave them their snacks, a paperbag of hand-me-down-shirts and dinero as payment, I asked him where his wife is working. He said “ni abroad naman ma’am” with that kind of longing expression. Then, both father and daughter looked at each other with that knowing smile. Then I asked back, “ni abroad nong, asa man? and he answered, “sa langit”.  I really don’t know what to say next. I felt a lump rising on my throat. How sad it must have been for him and his children.  So, we continued our little chit chat before they thanked me and left off.

I am really proud of Manong. Even in the scorching heat of the sun, he was cutting grasses to earn money and to put food on his children’s plate.  He would often tell her daughter to work under the shade while he stayed out in the sun cutting grasses. How touching! His other 2 children were left at home while the other one was adopted by a relative in Pangasinan.

Anyway, I hope her daughter will like the shirts I gave her. I am so touched when she peeped through inside the paper bag ….and that happy, giddy face she showed to me was priceless.  I thanked God for precious moments like this. I learn to appreciate the beauty and goodness of life in the eyes of these simple and humble people.

God bless s and Good night :-)
