We’re Engaged!

Never did I expect that Bee would pop the million dollar question of the lifetime last May. Million dollar,eh? Just kidding! But really, what was supposed to be an ordinary day turned extra special that night when he asked me on bended knees.

Anyway, that weekend was supposed to be spent in Siargao but got cancelled due to some group reasons. Since that outing was cancelled, I spent my Saturday de cluttering my room, sweeping and scrubbing the floor since I want to make my room spic and span. Tired and exhausted, I sent him a message on what activities we will be having for the day. He casually answered that he will play basketball with XUHS batch mates around 2pm then told me that we will go to church after the game since he has to go somewhere else the following day which was a Sunday. At first, I was like, “ok, see you then. Mwah!” but after a while, I felt bad and frustrated that what was supposed to be a fun and exciting weekend spent in Siargao will turned out to be an ordinary one. I was looking forward for that get-a-way weekend with him but was disappointed at the very last minute it got cancelled.

I furiously said to myself that he should have thought of something special on that day like going out of town for date or dinner or perhaps a trip to the nearest beach resort would have been appreciated. But his short text messages meant he has no intention of doing so. Since I cannot hold my disappointment anymore, I ranted and raved about how disappointed I am that he cannot think of something else fun to do on a weekend our trip was cancelled. I texted him “blah blah blah” messages and was already blowing my top when he called me up and said, “Bee, you always ruin whatever surprises I have set for you…” and at first, I did not understand what he meant but since he was very calm and all, I felt bad for nagging him for something so trivial.

Since I always wanted to be “cool, calm and collected”, I charged into positive vibes that day and shoo away the negative energies and vibes away. I told him I was tired and that I cannot watch the game and that we will just meet up right after. He suggested that we will cook together and have a nice dinner. He asked me what I want to eat so I simply said “pasta, pizza and prolly chicken Charlie will do”.  So, he played basketball with his batch mates as I retired to bed for a good afternoon siesta. He actually meant it so that I will not have any single idea that he is proposing that day.

When I woke up from afternoon siesta, I got myself prepped for dinner and wore my usual “for going” clothes; my old rose blouse from For Me, brown Khaki pants and my red suede Melissa flats not knowing that he will propose that night. So he arrived and off we went to buy ingredients for pasta, then I told him we’ll just order chicken @ Chicken Charlie and small cake from Red Ribbon since I was craving for it and told him to cancel pizza.

We went to our starter pad and cook the pasta. We were laughing and having so much fun cooking, taking photos while slicing and etc. I told him that we should have played the songs on the CD I gave him but he simply said that FM station songs will do. So it never occurred to me that he will propose that night. I thought this was the surprise he was talking about; a simple candlelight dinner with our fave food and FM station songs to boot on a weekend that was supposed to be spent in the white sands and bluewater of Siargao. Nevertheless, I was happy and was grinning from ear to ear.

i am engaged!
With that, we set up the table together, turned off the lights, and lit the scented candle to create a Zen-like atmosphere. I readied myself, checked my face, dabbed some loose powder and combed my hair while he went to the room to change his shirt to a new one. Then I sat down and was almost ready to eat the food we prepared. Oh, I was dying to taste and eat the food when suddenly; the song in FM Station changed into our SONG! Michael Bubble’s “Everything”… (And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times ….It's you, it's you, you make me sing. You’re every line, you're every word, you're everything) and I spun around to see him with this kind of magic in his eyes and we were both smiling, and he was all teary-eyed when he said, “I want to say something first…” then on bended knees, he said something about us which got me teary-eyed, then he got the ring on his pocket and popped the question, “Ivy, will you marry me”? and we were both crying as I said “Yes!!!”.

happy!
We cried, hugged and laughed for a long time before everything sank in to me.  Then I remembered dancing with him with our song playing in the air. I remembered all the highs and lows in our relationship, the countless trials we brave together, the ordeal of making sacrifices, the past we both unlocked together, the future we wanted to build in together, the forgiveness and happiness in our hearts and above all, the great LOVE we have for each other.

simple food we cooked two-gether!
Actually, his original plan was to order lavish dishes from one of our fave restos in the city and have it arranged before he will bring me to the pad. Supposedly, the plan was to hear mass first, which also means I get to wear something formal then bring me to the pad to have the “surprise dinner” with scented candles, music playing and everything in between. Since I acted up and put some drama that day, his original plan ultimately changed, but for me it was all spontaneous and care-free.

Surreal! I wouldn’t have it in any other way. I am glad he proposed to me in our simple starter pad, our love nest that will be our first home together.

It was one magical moment for us, a day we will forever hold close in our hearts.
