I know this is very, very late but I just wanted
to write something for my husband’s 35th birthday. Anyway, I am not a fan of throwing big
birthday bashes/parties simply because I grow up not having one. The only birthday
party that I had with lechon, different meals and lots of visitors was when I turned
16, the summer before I entered the portals of college. My high school
classmates were there and so with my cousins. Other than that year, my birthday
is simply celebrated with my family. Mama would cook spaghetti, fried chicken and will also buy a gallon
of ice-cream and yes, a cake if I got lucky. Hehehe! Of course, a lot of hugs
and kisses and wishes from my family and friends. For my 18th
birthday, Mama and Auntie cooked fried fish, monggo with coconut honey and
binignit. Hahaha! My 18th bday fell on a Good Friday so no meat, no
chocolates and all that. But I love having simple family dinner on my birthday.
This year, it was just me and husband.
However, it is quite different with my husband .
He narrated to me that his family always throw him big birthday party ever since he was a kid. For them, it is a way of giving thanks for his life. And
so, when I got married to him, I know that the responsibility will be in my
hands. It is a good thing that I am blessed with nice and supportive sisters-in
law.
Anyway, my husband and I agreed to have catering
services since we do not have the luxury of time to prepare and all that stuff that
goes with it. We also moved it to a Saturday instead of Friday. Prior to that,
I was already thinking of doing something special for him. Not because he keeps
on surprising me on my birthday but simply because I want to surprise him and make
him happy.
And so my “surprise birthday move” surprised him
and I saw it in his eyes that he was very touched and happy. He hugged me for a
long time and we took photos here and there. The day before his birthday, I went
to shop for his presents, the pink & blue party hats, candles and the cake
which I hid the best I could. On the eve of his birthday, he told me that he needed to go back
to the office since there was some trouble. Thank God for that “trouble”
because it gave me time to prep up. To make a long story short, I prepped
everything in a jiffy. I lighted the scented candles, put out the cake from its
hiding place (hahaha), placed his presents on the table and arranged
everything. I turned off the lights then..and waited and waited! And the rest was a beautiful history!
We were up so early the next day to do some
groceries then we made the house spic and span for his birthday party dinner. I already prepped the fruit salad the night
before. The catering services crew arrived very early in the afternoon. My
sister in law also arrived with lots of sweet desserts and I am so thankful for
her effort. Our guests, friends and relatives arrived in trickles or by batches.
It was a great day for both of us, but most
especially for my dear birthday celebrant who turned 35! Yes, he is 6 years my
senior but we perfectly blend together. I pray for his health, for his work and
for his relationship with me and God and with the others too. We also pray that
we will be gifted with a beautiful angel next year. For now, we are thankful
for we have more time to know each other better and I am so happy I have CLYDE
as my husband.
