Yes, I finally went to the library this afternoon and had the worst headache of my life.
Here goes:
I went inside and asked the girl behind the counter where I can find Statistics and Research books and she was like lost in the woods but after circling around the counter’s area she finally handed me two old books.
I look for a computer where I can just hit the keyboard and search for list of authors and books only to find myself searching using the Dewey Decimal Classification system which I can proudly brag right now that I was able to memorize that during grade school and got a perfect score in a POP quiz. Hahaha! POP QUIZ! Sounds really funny! Pop!Goes the weasel!!!
I really had the hard time locating the books I wanted. I mean, in XU all I do is hit the buttons, copy the code or whatever and go straight to the book section, grab it, flip through the pages to find the topic, dash off to the counter, hand in the i.d. and viola I can already go home with a mission very much accomplished!
Too bad XU is not offering a master’s degree in Early Childhood Program but I am also thankful that I get to see another campus. Lourdes is competitive when it comes to Education (Masters) and many of the grad students make it to the top ten best papers in Mindanao. Oh well, just as long as I am learning every day, it doesn’t really matter the “this and the that”. But next week, I will really get my alumni I.d in XU so that I can use the library.
Anyhoo, after searching for some books, I finally made it to the counter again and asked the guy behind if I can borrow it.
He said, “Sorry Miss but there’s something wrong with the system so I cannot process it, maybe it will work next week. Maybe you can have it photocopied.”
I asked,“Uhm, Where’s the photocopier?”
He answered, “Sorry Miss but there’s something wrong with the toner so…..” And his voice trailed off.
I said, “I really need this copy today so what can I do?”
He suggested, “uhm, maybe you can go outside the school and have it photocopied, just give me your I.d.”
So, off I went outside the school to have some pages copied, returned the books and found myself a place to sit when some guy approached me and said, “Miss, can you deposit your bag outside where you can see a bag counter?”
And I said to myself, “Is this some kind of a mall?”
But anyway, it’s ok.I have no qualms about it. I even appreciate the goodness of the staff in Lourdes. They are very accommodating and will really help me if I need something. Even the guy behind the counter was extra nice. The only problem I guess is the lack of facilities but other than that, it’s perfect! My professors are all nice and I really learned a lot from them.
Actually, my 1st choice is to enroll myself in a distance learning so that I can still continue working in BKK while studying. University of the Philippines (Open U.) is offering e-learning courses but they don’t offer Masters in SPED and ECP.
So here I am! :)
